After a year and a half, one of my friends finally came out to visit me! Ben and I had some exciting adventures all over Japan. But first, some pictures of the graduation ceremony at my school, which happened on the same day he got here.

All the kids have to wear uniforms. The girls have the white part on the back and skirts; the boys wear all black

There are not too many camera-shy middle schoolers here in Japan.

The stage, where the kids get their diplomas and some important people talk for a while.

The view from my desk.

Ben comes off the plane. Something about magnetic fields and anti-rotation of the Earth seems to have made him out of focus all day long.

Backlit, jetlagged Ben. Riding the "rapi-to" train from the airport to Osaka city.

The back of the rapi-to train. It was moving kind of fast by the time it got to where I was, so it's blurry, but if you look closely you can see that it looks like the head of a giant robot.
